Tuesday, March 2, 2010 Research on natural habitat of mockingbird ; flora and fauna in Maycomb First of all, lets start on a little background of the mockingbird. Mocking birds are a group of birds Mimidae family. They are known for the habit of mimicking the songs of other birds and the sounds of insects and amphibians, often loudly and in rapid succession. The mockingbird eats ripe berries and garden insects. Habitat of Mockingbird
Mockingbirds build cup-shaped nests in forks of trees or bushes. Both the male and female build the nest using twigs, leaves and grass.
They like open areas and thickets, farmland and desert brush, rather than dense woodlands. Thus they can usually be found in suburban yards, orchards, parks.
Most of the mockingbirds live in America, they can be found in most of the continental United States from southern Oregon through northern Utah to Newfoundland and south to Mexico.
Conclusion As the mockingbird eats garden insects and berries, their habitat would most likely have thickets, farmlands and desert brushs, as these areas are where berries grow and garden insects live. Thus, i conclude that Maycomb has thickets and desert brushs. As no farmlands are mentioned in TKAM, i do not think there are any in Maycomb.
